Product Features

1-Octadecylamine is a white waxy solid or flaky crystal at room temperature, insoluble in water but highly soluble in organic solvents. The terminal primary amino group (-NH₂) endows it with basicity, enabling it to react with inorganic or organic acids to form corresponding quaternary ammonium salts. The hydrophobic octadecyl chain structure renders its chemical properties relatively stable, though it may undergo degradation under strong oxidizing conditions. Meanwhile, the long carbon chain enhances its adsorption capacity at interfaces. As one of the premium raw materials for fabric softeners and lubricants, 1-octadecylamine imparts excellent soft hand feel and smoothness to fabrics. Its derivatives can firmly adsorb onto negatively charged surfaces (e.g., fibers, metals, minerals) to provide long-lasting effects.

Application

Textile Industry：It reacts with ethylene oxide to produce nonionic surfactants, which serve as the main components of softeners, antistatic agents, and water repellents, and are widely used in textile finishing.

Mineral Flotation Agent：It is specifically used for potassium salt flotation in regions such as Xinjiang and Qinghai.

Corrosion Inhibitor：It acts as a boiler lay-up protectant and a corrosion inhibitor in industrial water systems.

Anti-caking Agent：It is used for anti-caking of chemical fertilizers and pyrotechnic products.

Others：It is also widely used as an asphalt emulsifier, grease thickener, antistatic agent, pigment dispersant, etc. High-specification 1-Octadecylamine can further be used to synthesize octadecyl isocyanate, which is applied in the synthesis of new polymer materials to endow them with permanent hydrophobic, oleophobic, and anti-adhesive properties.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents, and separated from incompatible substances such as acids.
