Product Features

1-Hexadecylamine exists as a white to slightly yellow waxy solid or flaky crystal at room temperature, with a characteristic amine odor. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in most organic solvents, having a melting point of 43–47°C. One end of the molecule features an lipophilic long carbon chain, while the other end contains a hydrophilic amino group—this structure renders it an excellent surfactant intermediate. The long carbon chain enables it to be easily adsorbed onto material surfaces through physical or chemical interactions, modifying interfacial properties. Consequently, it is commonly used as a fiber softener and mineral flotation agent. In the biological field, 1-hexadecylamine can be utilized for the precipitation and purification of nucleic acids in specific formulations (e.g., CTAB-related methods).

Application

Surfactant Intermediate: Serves as a fundamental raw material for the production of various cationic and zwitterionic surfactants.

Textile Auxiliary: Used in the textile industry as a fiber waterproofing and softening agent, antistatic agent, and dyeing auxiliary.

Mineral Processing: Employed as a flotation agent for the separation and concentration of minerals.

Agriculture & Chemical Industry: Functions as a chemical fertilizer anti-caking agent to prevent agglomeration; also utilized in the preparation of insecticides and high-grade detergents.

Other Industrial Additives: Acts as a pigment dispersant, rust inhibitor, lubricating oil additive, disinfectant, and antiseptic, etc.

Scientific Research & New Materials:Used as a capping agent or reducing stabilizer in the synthesis of nanomaterials (e.g., gold, silver, copper) and CdSe nanocrystals.Applied in the preparation of organoclays and polyimide nanocomposites.Utilized in phase change materials (PCMs) to facilitate photothermal and electrothermal energy conversion.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents, and separated from incompatible substances such as acids.
