Product Features
Laurylamine exists as a white waxy solid or crystal at room temperature, with a characteristic amine odor. It is sparingly soluble in water but readily soluble in most organic solvents, and its aqueous solution exhibits alkaline properties. With a melting point of 27–29°C, it melts into a liquid at slightly elevated ambient temperatures. Boasting a flash point of >110°C, it is classified as a combustible substance but is not easily ignited. The primary amino group in the molecule endows it with high reactivity, making laurylamine a crucial intermediate for the synthesis of cationic and zwitterionic surfactants. Its C12 long-chain alkyl group confers excellent hydrophobic and lipophilic properties, along with good biodegradability. Laurylamine itself and its derivatives are prone to protonation, carrying a positive charge that facilitates adsorption onto negatively charged surfaces—enabling its application as a flotation agent, softener, and fungicide.
Application
Surfactants: As a key intermediate, it is used in the production of nonionic surfactants and serves as the foundation for chemical products such as antistatic agents, detergents, and emulsifiers.
Mineral Flotation Agents: In the mining industry, leveraging its cationic nature, it is employed for lithium ore flotation.
Pesticides: Utilized as an intermediate in the synthesis of the insecticide spinosad.
Industrial Additives: Functions as a fiber waterproofing and softening agent, antistatic agent, pigment dispersant, dye auxiliary, lubricating oil additive, chemical fertilizer anti-caking agent, etc.
Disinfectants & Antiseptics: Laurylamine itself and its derivatives exhibit certain bactericidal and disinfectant properties, making them suitable for the preparation of pesticides, disinfectants, and related products.
Lubricating Oil Additives: Laurylamine reacts with alkylbenzotriazole to form salt compounds. Its molecular structure combines the corrosion inhibition capability of benzotriazole with the oil solubility of fatty amines, endowing the product with properties including corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, oil-water separation ability, and low-temperature oil solubility. It is widely applied in gear oils, anti-wear hydraulic oils, oil-film bearing oils, rust preventive oils, and lubricating oils/greases.
Safety and Storage
From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.
In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.
Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents, and separated from incompatible substances such as acids.
