Product Features

n-Octylamine is a colorless, transparent liquid with an ammonia-like or fishy odor. Its aqueous solution exhibits alkaline properties and possesses both lipophilic and hydrophilic characteristics. The primary amino group (-NH₂) in the molecule serves as its main reactive center. As a C8 straight-chain primary amine, n-octylamine demonstrates excellent nucleophilicity.

Application

Fungicides & Pesticides: Synthesis of high-efficiency fungicides such as octylisothiazolinone (OIT); also used as an intermediate in pesticide synthesis.

Pharmaceuticals & Liquid Crystals: Serves as a pharmaceutical intermediate for the synthesis of drugs like naproxen; also applied in the synthesis of liquid crystal materials.

Solvents & Additives: Production of N-octylpyrrolidone, which acts as a solvent for agrochemicals and organic pigments; used as an additive in lubricating oils.

Surfactants: Manufacture of cationic and zwitterionic surfactants, utilized as fiber/leather softeners, fabric antistatic agents, etc.

Other Fine Chemicals: Employed as corrosion inhibitors, flotation agents, and also finds applications in biochemical research.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents, and separated from incompatible substances such as acids.
