Product Features

 

n-Hexylamine is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with a pungent ammoniacal or fishy odor. It is highly flammable, and caution must be exercised during handling. The primary amino group in its molecule renders its aqueous solution alkaline and imparts high reactivity. It can react with acids to form salts and undergo acylation reactions with acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, etc., to produce amides. It is unstable towards oxidizing agents and may decompose under illumination or in the presence of activated carbon.

n-Hexylamine exhibits both hydrophilic amino group and lipophilic alkyl chain, coupled with high reactivity.




Application

 

Organic Synthesis Intermediate: As its core application, it is used in the synthesis of dyes, pigments, pharmaceuticals (e.g., local anesthetics), and pesticides (precursors for insecticides/ herbicides).

Industrial Additive: It serves as an epoxy resin curing agent, mineral flotation agent, and corrosion inhibitor (for boiler water treatment). In the rubber industry, it acts as a vulcanization accelerator. In electronic chemicals, it is utilized in the formulation of etching solutions for OLED displays.

Surfactant Precursor: It is used to produce anionic or non-ionic surfactants, which are applied in detergents and cosmetics.




Safety and Storage

 

From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents, and separated from incompatible substances such as acids.
