Product Features

1632 appears as a white crystalline powder or crystals in high-purity grade at ambient temperature, while the industrial grade typically presents as a pale yellow solid. It is readily soluble in ethanol and isopropanol. The solid product is hygroscopic and requires airtight storage to prevent deliquescence.

It integrates multiple functionalities, including penetration, softening, emulsification (with a Hydrophile-Lipophile Balance (HLB) value of 15.8), antistatic action, sterilization/disinfection, flocculation, and phase-transfer catalysis, making it a highly efficient multifunctional additive.

As a cationic surfactant, it readily adsorbs onto negatively charged surfaces (such as bacterial cell membranes, fibers, and metals), thereby effectively exerting bactericidal, antistatic, and softening effects. It exhibits excellent chemical stability, with good resistance to heat, light, strong acids, and strong alkalis.

It demonstrates good compatibility with cationic, non-ionic, and amphoteric surfactants. However, it is incompatible with anionic surfactants, as their combination results in precipitation.

Application

Household & Personal Care: Used as a conditioning agent in hair rinses to soften hair and improve combability; employed as a disinfectant/bactericide in mouthwashes, toothpaste, etc.; and applied as an antistatic and softening agent in cosmetics.

Industrial Additives: Functions as an emulsifier for natural/synthetic rubber, silicone oils, and asphalt; serves as an antistatic and softening agent for synthetic fibers.

Water Treatment: Applied as a bactericide-algicide and slime stripper in industrial recirculating cooling water and oilfield water injection systems, with a typical dosage of 50-100 mg/L.

Flux Agent: Also utilized as a surfactant in the production of fluxes and solder paste. It exhibits high activity and contributes to mitigating issues such as solder voids, poor wetting, and improving solder joint fullness.

Scientific Research: One of its most well-known applications is as a key reagent in the CTAB method for extracting plant genomic DNA and RNA, effectively separating nucleic acids from proteins and polysaccharides.

Other Industries: Employed as a phase-transfer catalyst in organic synthesis, a mineral flotation agent, and a corrosion inhibitor in electroplating baths, among other uses.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, 1632 is irritating to the skin and eyes. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin or eyes contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

It should be sealed and stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated indoor place, protected from moisture and strictly guarded against exposure to sunlight.
